Sources and methodology

VolcanoSpotting combines public, scientific, meteorological, satellite and operational sources to provide a practical reading of volcanic activity, travel conditions, access and UAS/airspace context. This information is indicative and should always be cross-checked with volcano observatories, aviation authorities and official local sources before travelling, filming or flying.

Classified sources

Seismicity and activity

Aggregated reading of seismic activity and operational validations, with recommended cross-checking against observatories and geological services whenever more precise local sources exist.

Weather

Current conditions and forecast shown in the card are generated through Open-Meteo to support visit, observation and flight planning.

Thermal anomaly

Thermal reading relies on VIIRS / FIRMS satellite detections, useful to identify hotspots, radiative power and thermal signal persistence.

Volcanic gases

SO₂ indicators and volcanic atmospheric signal rely on Sentinel-5P / Copernicus products whenever available in the technical card.

Airspace and UAS

The airspace layer combines official, beta or operational references by country. Always cross-check with the relevant authority, NOTAMs and local restrictions before any flight.

Base cartography

General cartographic representation and map interaction rely on base cartography and visualisation libraries.
